The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Bequest of Scofield Thayer, 1982 (1984.433.298ab) | The many self-portraits Egon Schiele created between 1910 and 1918 are searing explorations of his psychic state. Assuming a pose suggestive of the crucified Christ in this self-portrait of 1911, he stares out wildly, his shock of hair standing on end.
